Category Archives: Insects I found 4 praying Mantis in the asparagus today. There was a female being held by a male and while I was watching another male jumped to embrace her as well. After 4 hours they were still there. Back at one of the Dogwoods there were at least a half dozen Black Saddlebag dragonflies hovering about. It…  I came across these Praying Mantis in our Asparagus. 24 hours later and they are still there. I imagine that the male is a little afraid of becoming dinner. I am finding that since getting the new lens I am paying a bit more attention to the smaller creatures that inhabit our garden. I am planning on getting a couple of new reference guides today. It seems that the ones I have don’t give me enough detail…  I am amazed at the complexity and beauty of the creatures although it is said thay are one of the deadliest hunters.
